Community management and how to handle criticism and trolls on social media

According to the Danish Institute for Human Rights, every seventh comment on Facebook is hateful. This creates a difficult debate environment, and it forces us to pose an important question: How do universities share research on sensitive subjects such as identity, the Covid-19 pandemic, or migration on our social media platforms without the risk of becoming magnets for trolls and non-scientific claims?

As communications officers we have an opportunity to improve how we address and debate sensitive subjects on social media. Through planned and skilled community management and conflict management, we can support and make sure our social media platforms call for nuanced and informed discussions.

In this workshop, you will learn how to manage an online community. And together we will practise, based on real life examples, how to handle criticism, hateful comments, and even trolls online.
